Our Curriculum
At Samara Tualang School, we offer the Steiner Waldorf curriculum, an educational approach founded by Rudolf Steiner in 1919 that has since grown into a worldwide movement dedicated to educating the whole human being — head, heart, and hands.
Rooted in a deep understanding of child development, Waldorf education honours each stage of growth, meeting the child where they are.
In the early years, learning unfolds through imitation, play, rhythm, and connection with nature.
In the primary years, imagination becomes the bridge to learning — subjects are explored in Main Lesson blocks, allowing ideas to take root through story, art, and practical experience.
As students enter adolescence, they begin to learn from expertise, engaging with mentors and real-world experiences that deepen understanding and purpose.
Each subject engages the whole being, nurturing curiosity and joy in learning. It is a well-rounded, unstreamed education, believing that a good scientist can also be a good artist.
Waldorf education is also a social education — children learn through relationships and real connections with the world around them. It is a path of becoming, preparing young people not just for school, but for life — guiding them toward freedom in spirit, goodness in deed, and warmth in heart.
-
We currently offer Early Childhood, Primary, and Middle School programmes. Our Early Childhood class is a mixed-age children from 4 to 6 years old, while Primary and Middle School cater to students from Year 1 to Year 8.
-
English is the main medium of instruction. Students also learn Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia as second
languages, enriching their connection to these local and international cultures.
-
Our academic year follows the January to December calendar. The school observes Malaysia’s public holidays, unless otherwise noted in the Annual School Calendar.
-
Early Childhood admissions are on a rolling basis. The main intakes for Primary and Middle School are in January and July, while mid-term admissions for Primary may be considered on a case-by-case basis. All intakes are confirmed after an assessment with the School.
-
Our school day runs daily from:
8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for Early Childhood
8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for Grade 1 to Grade 4
8: 00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for Grade 5 to Grade 8
-
Samara Tualang School can cater up to 220 students and has the potential to grow up to 600 students with developments and upgrades in the near future.
-
Our Primary classes generally have up to 25 students per class, though we also consider the classroom space and class dynamics. In Kindergarten, the ratio is typically 1 teacher to every 8 children.
-
For Early Childhood, we provide a vegetarian morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack each day.
For Primary students, we provide a vegetarian morning snack and lunch, with an optional meat option (halal chicken/fish) at lunch.
Healthy, balanced meals are prepared fresh daily using organic and biodynamic ingredients.
-
We do not offer transportation at this time; however, we may connect you with families living in the same area for possible carpooling arrangements.
-
While our School does not require a uniform, we encourage students to wear plain-coloured clothing, shoes, and socks, as well as appropriate sports attire for movement activities in the forest setting.
-
Our School is not yet equipped with specialised teaching resources to support children with unique learning profiles. However, children with identified learning needs may be considered for admission if we are able to provide adequate support. Each decision is guided by our capacity to meet the individual needs of every child.
-
We are operating as a private school currently and taking the necessary steps in line with the requirements from the Ministry of Education Malaysia to achieve International School status within the next 2 years.
-
We welcome foreign students whose families hold a valid residence permit and whose child has a dependent visa. Please note that the school is unable to support student visa applications at this time.
-
Many students need some time to adjust when joining a new school, especially if the learning approach differs from what they are used to. Based on the many precedents we have seen—whether Waldorf children transitioning into more conventional settings, or children from non-Waldorf schools joining a Waldorf environment—an adjustment period of a few months is both common and expected. We therefore encourage parents to plan ahead and minimise transitions, as stability supports each child’s healthy growth and development.
