Our Governance
We are a school of Integrity, Trust, and Freedom.
Samara Tualang School does not belong to any person, group, or generation.
It belongs to childhood itself — to the sacred task of education and the preservation of what is most human. It belongs to time — to the patience of growth, to the unfolding of the school’s true destiny, and to the generations to come.
It is not built to be possessed, but to be protected. Not to serve ambition, but to serve becoming. Not to endure as a monument, but to live as an organism — breathing and growing through the shared work of its community, guided by a higher wisdom.
Our Guardianship
Samara Tualang School presently operates under Samara Tualang Sdn. Bhd., a private limited company established as the school’s operating vessel and to meet Ministry of Education licensing requirements. In alignment with its founding vision, the sole owner has signed a Letter of Undertaking formally relinquishing all proprietary rights and holding the school entirely in trust as a not-for-profit entity. This undertaking mandates the transfer of 100% ownership to a corporate trustee within one year of full operations (before January 2027), allowing a brief transitional period for operational stability while protecting the school from private ownership or commercial influence.
Upon transfer, the school will become a trust-owned institution, with the corporate trustee holding legal ownership independently of any individual interest. Oversight is provided by a group of protectors drawn from the founding circle, whose sole role is to nominate School Board members, guided by and in accordance with the school’s threefold governance structure. Day-to-day governance will arise through the policies and processes shaped collectively by the living work of the threefold community — teachers, parents, and administrators. In this way, the trust safeguards the school’s integrity, while allowing the community’s threefold governance life to take root and grow organically over time.
In the long term, Samara Tualang School will transition into a foundation-owned institution, once its governance framework has matured through lived practice. A foundation structure allows the tried and tested governance model to be legally enshrined and carried by a living, representative body. In this way, the foundation allows Samara Tualang to live as a true social organism — one that can breathe, renew, and evolve across generations, while remaining not-for-profit, independent, and faithful to its founding purpose.
Our Governance
The governance of Samara Tualang School is founded on Rudolf Steiner’s Threefold Social Life, which recognises three interdependent spheres — Cultural, Rights, and Economic — guided respectively by the principles of freedom, integrity, and trust, echoing the classical ideals of freedom, equality, and fraternity while aligned with the school’s own values. Each sphere is supported by a governing body that strives toward its ideal:
• Cultural Sphere – College of Teachers
• Rights Sphere – School Board
• Economic Sphere – Parent Council
College of Teachers (Cultural Sphere – Heart)
The College of Teachers carries the heart of the school. It is the vessel through which the inner and pedagogical life of the school is sensed and protected. Its work extends beyond administration — it attends to the spiritual well-being of the school. The College carries responsibility for the educational direction and cultural life of the school. It guides the curriculum and the rhythm of the school year, supports the induction and professional growth of teachers, and upholds the quality of teaching and the well-being of the children. It also fosters reflective practice and inner development that support the school's deeper educational purpose.
School Board (Rights Sphere – Head)
The School Board carries the head of the school. It safeguards the school’s legal, financial, and operational well-being, ensuring that the outer form supports the inner work. Its role is to hold the school’s practical tasks with strong governance and integrity, ensuring that all decisions are made with clarity, transparency, and right judgment. The Board serves as a guardian of structure and accountability. Its core responsibilities include strategic oversight, policy governance, and financial stewardship.
Parent Council (Economic Sphere – Hands)
The Parent Council carries the hands of the school. It represents the community life that supports the school’s well-being through acts of service, collaboration, and generosity — coordinating festivals, parent initiatives, and community events that nurture belonging and shared purpose. The Parent Council fosters trust between home and school. It brings awareness to the school’s practical needs and philanthropic goals, supporting their realisation through volunteer efforts, fundraising, and resource stewardship.
